Scuba Diving in Havelock Island
Havelock Island — officially Swaraj Dweep — is the centre of scuba diving in Andaman. Sitting in the Andaman Sea, it has something most dive destinations in India do not: reefs you can reach by walking off the beach, and deeper sites a short boat ride away. That mix is why a complete beginner and a certified diver can both have a good day here.
Beginners start in shallow, supervised water at sites like Nemo Reef. Certified divers head out to boat-accessible locations such as Tribe Gate, Lighthouse and Turtle Beach, where the depth and marine life suit their training. Which site you actually dive on any given day depends on your experience and the sea conditions that morning — a judgement our instructors make, not a box you tick at booking.
Whether you have three days on the island or three weeks, we will match you to a dive that fits. Scuba diving for non-swimmers and beginners is a good place to start if you have never breathed underwater, and our Havelock dive sites covers each reef in detail.
Step by step
How Your First Dive Actually Works
No certification is needed to try scuba diving in Andaman on a supervised introductory dive. Here is exactly what happens, from booking to back on the beach — so nothing on the day is a surprise.

Choose your dive
Pick a shore or boat dive based on your comfort in water and what you want to see. Not sure? Our team will tell you honestly which one suits you.

Medical check
You complete a short medical questionnaire. Some conditions need a doctor's clearance before diving, so flag anything relevant early.

Safety briefing
Your instructor walks you through the equipment, hand signals, how to breathe underwater, and what to do if something feels wrong.

Practise in shallow water
Before the real dive you get comfortable breathing through the regulator in water you can stand up in. Nobody goes deeper until you are ready.
05
Your guided dive
An instructor stays with you for the whole dive, managing depth and time while you look at the reef.
06
Back on land
You surface, de-kit, and collect any photos or video included in your package.

Planning your trip
Best Time for Diving in Andaman
October to May is the diving season in the Andamans, with December to March the most reliable stretch. Visibility, currents and wind shift through the year, so conditions on your dive day matter more than the month on the calendar.

Season opens
Conditions improve as the monsoon retreats. Early October can still be unsettled, so keep plans flexible.
Dec – Mar
Peak diving
The busiest and most reliable months. Best chance of calm seas and good visibility for both shore and boat dives.
Apr – May
Still good
Diving continues and the islands are quieter. Warmer water, with conditions worth checking close to your dates.
Jun – Sep
Monsoon
Southwest monsoon brings rain and rougher seas. Boat dives are often restricted or cancelled on safety grounds.
Planning tip: if diving is the main reason you are coming to the Andamans, keep a spare day in your itinerary and confirm availability before you book flights.
